Overview
Star Coins are special coins that first appeared in New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. In this game, these coins are used to open new paths, and allows the player to buy new some new backgrounds for the game. In all, there are 240 Star Coins, 3 per level and each coin adds 1,000 points to your current score. In the Wii sequel, the Star Coins appear again and this time, it allows the player to buy hint movies at Peach's Castle and when you get all of them in each world, then a new level from the 9th world will unlock. In this game, there are 231 of them and each one adds 4,000 points to your current score, compared to the 1,000 in the original.
