Sands of Time
The Sands of Time are a magical relic around which the trilogy of the same name revolves. The Sands are cursed, corrupting any living thing they touch, but may be manipulated by various artifacts to command great power, especially over the flow of time itself.
Origin Myth
Before sequels fleshed out their background story, the origins of the Sands of Time were briefly explained by a series of wall paintings found in the sewers of the Maharaja's palace. They depict twin gods, one good and one evil, eventually confronting each other. The good god destroys his evil brother and seals his essence within a magical hourglass.
