A Narcotic in Mass Effect universe. Red sand grants its user biotic powers or enhances their latent ability as well as providing the euphoria common with other narcotics.
Red Sand is made from refined element zero and this is where the biotic power comes from. In large doses it is toxic. While physical withdrawal symptoms are short lived(around 24 hours), mentally it can be hard to resist and holds a grip on users.
