A delicious treat, Rare Candies allow Pokemon to gain levels, one for each candy eaten.
Rare Candy initiates leveling up, but not evolution.
Rare Candy is an item found in many games of the Pokemon franchise. Usually there are only a limited number per game, making them coveted items and the focus of duplication cheats. As each of the Pokemon games use an increasing amount of experience points per level, many players wait until they are almost at level 100 to use them.
A negative side-effect of using Rare Candy is that a pokemon's EV points are neglected when they are leveled up in this way. As a result, many trainers wait until all of a Pokemon's EVs are filled before using this item - a practice that matches well with waiting until the pokemon is at a high level.
