A necessary component of "snail mail," being able to communicate around the world for mere pennies still counts for something.
While letter writing is not a common video game trope, the stamp motif itself has been incorporated into certain games.
- In Team Fortress 2, "map stamp" collection is used as a microtransaction model. This allows players to financially reward mapmakers in the TF2 community. Stamps can be collected and displayed based on hat rank and special effects on the particular map funded. Valve has even created a special hat called the Philateler which is possessed by only one global user per day, based on being the top purchaser of stamps the day before.
