Necronomicon
The Necronomicon is a tome that contains ancient rites. It is said to be bound in human flesh and written in blood.
Overview
The Necronomicon originally derives from horror stories by H.P. Lovecraft. The fictional author of the Necronomicon is the "Mad Arab" alchemist, Abdul Alhazred, who originally named it the Al Azif (Character) in Arabic. The book is a central plot element of the Cthulhu Mythos (Concept). It was later co-opted in the 1980's by The Evil Dead series of movies (and eventually, games). It is the inspiration for The Tome of Eternal Darkness, from the game Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (which itself is inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft). Other video games franchises inspired by the Necronomicon include Alone in the Dark (Franchise) and Demonbane (Franchise); the latter features a character called Al Azif (Character), referencing the book's original Arabic name. The fictional book is also featured in the Marvel (Franchise) franchise, in relation to the villain Doctor Doom (Character).
