A German belt fed machine gun that is derived from the MG42.

The MG3 is a postwar modification of the MG42 (Object) that was used by Germany (Location) during the war. Apart from the use of different materials and the use of 7.62 NATO ammunition instead of 8mm Mauser, the weapons are functionally almost the same. The weapon is still widely used in Norway (Location) and Germany (Location). However it has been phased out of use as a squad weapon in favor of various LMGs.
