Wyoming was the 42nd state to join the United States of America, officially becoming a state in 1890. It is the least populous state in the country; the United States Census Bureau estimated that as of 2008, it had a total population of 532,668. The state capital of Cheyenne is also its largest city with an estimated population of 55,314. Wyoming is notable as the first state in the union that granted women the right to vote. For that reason the state's motto is "The Equality State." It is also home to Yellowstone National Park, the first national park established by the federal government, and the first national monument, Devil's Tower.
