Overview
Sparta was a nation of warriors. They selected and trained their soldiers from birth, in fierce and barbaric fashion. They used to murder the children who were born deformed or with limited skills. They are constantly portrayed as ruthless, overpowering warriors. Their state survived through slavery and at all times slaves outnumbered Spartans 3 to 1. Their greatest rivals were the Athenians .
