Illinois is the 21st state admitted into the United States on December 3, 1818. Chicago is the largest city in the state.

Illinois was home to one of the oldest American video game companies, Midway, which was founded in 1958 as a manufacturer of amusement park games. Originally based in Franklin Park, Illinois, the company moved to the nearby city of Chicago (Location) in 1988. The company produced hit arcade games Mortal Kombat (Franchise), NBA Jam (Franchise), and NFL Blitz (Franchise) in the 1990s, but struggled to find consistent success in the home console market. Midway declared bankruptcy in 2009, which resulted in a selling-off of assets and a corporate takeover by Warner Bros.

Former Giant Bomb news hound Patrick Klepek (Person) is from Illinois. Friend of the site John Vignocchi (Person), who worked for Midway, is also an Illinois native.
