Heinz Field is an outdoor sport arena, which is home to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. Heinz Field seats approximately 65,000 fans, which also include approximately 6,600 club seats and a capacity of approximately 1,500 in 127 suites.
History
The Steelers debuted at Heinz Field during the 2001/2002 NFL season. One main reason why Heinz Field was constructed was to separate the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers and give each team their own stadiums. The two teams are currently opposite each other across from the previous stadiums (Three Rivers Stadium) site. Heinz Field got its name from the H.J. Heinz Company for $57 million, partially in a nod to the "57 varieties" claimed on its ketchup bottles. The main scoreboard currently features two neon Heinz bottles, which appear to pour ketchup as the Steelers reach the “red zone” during games.
