LOCATION

HSBC Arena (now known as First Niagara Center) is the home of the NHL Team Buffalo Sabres and has been reproduced for every EA NHL game and NHL 2K game since 2000.

History of HSBC Arena

HSBC first opened its doors on September 21st, 1996, a NHL preseason game between the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs. Originally the name of the Arena was Marine Midla nd Arena (then a subsection of HSBC Banking), on March 17th 1999 HSBC decided to change the name of the arena to simply HSBC Arena.

Jumbotron Incident.

Jumbotron Crash in 96-

In November of 1996, only 2 months after opening, the arena's Jumbrotron fell to the ice shortly after a practice for an NHL game later that night featuring the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins. Fortunately no one was injured and the game that was scheduled for that evening was postponed. It was later repaired that season and served as the main score board for 11 years unti l in 2007, a new scoreboard was created for the Buffalo Sabres 2007-08 season.

New Scoreboard

The new scoreboard was created by Daktronics and is composed of 4 large High Definition video screens, along with a new sound system installed. The new sabres logo is also now prominent on all sides of the scoreboard. Along with the scoreboard a new 360 degree LED stripe was installed around the 200 level of the arena.
