Where in North Dakota is Carmen Sandiego? is an detective-themed edutainment adventure game developed and published by Brøderbund Software for Apple II in 1989. It did not receive a retail release, instead being sold to North Dakota (Location) public schools and through mail order. A spin-off of the 1985 game Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, Where in North Dakota switches from world geography to regional geography (similar to the Where in the U.S.A. and Where in Europe spin-offs), focusing solely on the U.S. state of North Dakota (Location). Released in celebration with the state's centennial and designed in part by a group of educators known as the North Dakota Database Committee, Where in North Dakota is the only state-specific game in the series and one of the few games in the series to not receive a wide release. The game tasks players, as a detective with he NoDak Detective Agency, with tracking down "impostors" that are playing "pranks" throughout the state. Rather than going to specific places throughout each city, players instead question various people (such as librarians and firefighters).
