Overview

Thrill Drive is an over-the-top street racing game developed and released by Konami (Company) for arcades in 1998. A spin-off of Konami's other racing games (including Midnight Run: Road Fighter 2, Winding Heat (Game), and Racing Jam (Game)), Thrill Drive puts players in reckless street races through an American, European, or Japanese city, where they have to use careful maneuvering through crowded traffic to avoid catastrophic traffic accidents. The game is known for its accident system, in which the game will scream at you, show a replay of the accident, show the damage cost, and worsen the weather (from sunny, to cloudy, to a thunderstorm). Players with a very high damage cost at the end of the credit have a chance of being on a separate "Worst Ranking" leaderboard. It also features a wide variety of vehicles to choose from (including a sedan, convertible, station wagon, truck, and bus) and an "assessment score" of the player's technique (such as "courage", "desire", "reflexes", and "IQ"). The game received multiple sequels, none of which received home conversions. Some of its concepts were later used in Criterion's Burnout (Franchise) series.
