The Ring: Terror's Realm, known in Japan as either Ring or The Ring, is a supernatural third-person survival horror game developed and published by Asmik Ace Entertainment (Company) for the Dreamcast (Platform) in Japan on February 24, 2000, with a North American release by Infogrames on August 22, 2000.
Based on the supernatural-horror novel and film series of the same name, The Ring puts players in the role of Meg Rainman (Character), a newly-hired researcher at a Centers for Disease Control (C.D.C.) facility whose boyfriend was among those killed under mysterious circumstances involving a new computer game known as "Ring". After trying the game herself and receiving a call that she will die in seven days, Meg becomes determined to solve the mystery, and must investigate the C.D.C. offices for clues while exploring the dark and twisted world of the game itself.
The game weaves between two sections: an adventure game section set in the real world, where Meg must search the offices and interact with fellow C.D.C. employees to unlock more of the facility, and a survival horror section set in the game world, where Meg is a member of a police brigade and must fight various nightmarish monsters while navigating a rundown complex. The "game world" portion makes use of a stealth-based gameplay mechanic using the flashlight, where she can reduce the chance of engaging enemies if she turns it off.
