Shogun Warriors
GAME » on April 1992
Following the footsteps of Capcom's Street Fighter II, Shogun Warriors is a 1992 fighting game from Kaneko that uses archetypes and figures from Japanese folklore.

Overview

Shogun Warriors, known in Japan as Fujiyama Buster, is a 2D comical historical-fantasy fighting game developed by Kaneko (in conjunction with Atop) and released by Kaneko for arcades in North America and Europe in April 1992, with the Japanese version released by Sammy in September 1992. Playing similar to other 2D fighting games at the time (namely Street Fighter II: The World Warrior), Shogun Warriors is the first fighting game to be based on classical Japanese archetypes (such as samurais, ninjas, geishas, and sumo wrestlers), classic Japanese figures, and creatures from Japanese folklore. Along with its Japanese theme, the game is known for its English-dubbed voice acting in its overseas releases and for its recorded soundtrack, which partially consists of overseas production music. It later received a sequel, titled Blood Warrior (Game) (Ooedo Fight in the Japanese version), that replaces the hand-drawn sprites for digitized actors (similar to the Mortal Kombat (Franchise) series).
