Overview

Shanghai Refresh (also known outside of Japan as either Mahjong Solitaire Refresh or Mahjong Solitaire, and also known as Mahjong Solitaire: Shanghai Refresh) is a mahjong solitaire game developed by Team Nightmare Project and published by Sunsoft (Company) for the Nintendo Switch (Platform) on November 29, 2018 in Japan (as both a digital and physical title), on December 13, 2018 in North America (digital-only), and on December 24, 2018 in Europe (digital-only). Part of the Shanghai series, Shanghai Refresh includes 256 different puzzle layouts of traditional mahjong solitaire, from simplistic 16-tile layouts to traditional 144-tile layouts. Some of these puzzles are based on layouts from the arcade versions of Shanghai (Game), Shanghai II (Game), and Shanghai III (Game). A single-player only game, Shanghai Refresh has players progressing by solving "panels" of puzzles, which reveals adjacent panels on a sprawling board and unlocks new puzzles, music, and background images. The game includes three types of puzzles: Normal, Time Limit, and Extreme. In addition, players can purchase a pack of additional 80 "EX Panel" puzzles as DLC. The game later received a port to the PC (Platform) (released digitally via Steam (Concept)) on September 11, 2019.
