Serofānzu (セロファーンズ), which can be interpreted as Cello-fans, Cellophanes, or Serofans, is a deliberately-retro mini-game collection developed and published by Ninelives (Company) for the Sony PlayStation exclusively in Japan on December 11, 1997.

It features 12 retro-style mini-games, all simulating different aspects of arcade games in the 1970's and 1980's. Additionally, time earned by playing these games can be used in the "Akiba Parts Shop" to unlock new features for each game (including new gameplay options, such as continues and alternate graphics).

Most of these games support analog peripherals for the PS1, namely mouse controls, paddle controls (such as Namco's Volume Controller), and light-gun controls (such as Namco's GunCon).

Game List

  • Computer Block - A '70s-style block-breaking game nearly identical to clones of the game Breakout (Game), including use of simulated colored cellophane overlays. Supports paddle controls.
  • Sekai Ryokō - A block-breaking game with blocky graphics similar to late '70s and early '80s computers. As the game translates to "World Travel", it features a travel theme with each stage taking place at a different worldwide monument. Supports paddle controls.
  • Tonosama Block - Identical to Sekai Ryokō, but each stage is themed on aspects of Feudal Japan (Concept) (hence "tonosama", or "feudal lord"). Supports paddle controls.
  • Dancing Zoo - A block-breaking game that is stylized as an early-to-mid '80s game (with the fake revision information dating to 1983). The objective is to bump the ball into animals moving around the playfield, each of which take multiple hits to remove, with the ball having gravity. Supports paddle controls.
  • Delta - A block-breaking game that uses a 3D perspective and simulates a game being played on a vector monitor of the early '80s. Each stage has a different assortment of obstacles, most of which take multiple hits to clear. Supports paddle controls.
  • Mystery Planet - A fixed-screen multi-directional shooter that stylizes as an early '80s game (dating back to 1982), with players flying their ship around the stage (similar to Gravitar (Game)) and collecting panels while shooting enemies and obstacles. Supports paddle controls.
  • Sea Fighter - A fixed-screen shoot-'em-up (similar to Space Invaders (Game)) where players move a submarine around the bottom of the playfield, launching torpedoes up against groups of fishes (with the goal being to destroy the target ship at the top). Similar to Computer Block, it includes use of simulated colored cellophane overlays, which can now be customized.
  • Carnival Hunt - A fixed-screen shoot-'em-up simulating a carnival shooting gallery, with players shooting a limited-ammo handgun up at conveyor-moving targets. Includes very simplistic graphics, similar to Sekai Ryokō. Supports paddle controls.
  • Dragon Walker - A top-down maze game where a dragon walks around a maze, changing the colors of its points, while avoiding other animals walking around.
  • Gun Fighter - A light-gun game that simulates an analog electro-mechanical game from the '60s and '70s, using hand-drawn art and targets that "physically move". Unlike Uiui Jungle and Tank, each target has a red dot to show where they can be shot. Supports gun controls.
  • Uiui Jungle - Identical to Gun Fighter, only with a jungle safari theme. Supports gun controls.
  • Tank - Also identical to Gun Fighter, only with a wartime armored combat theme. Supports gun controls.
