Starsweep, or StarSweep, is a falling-block tile-matching puzzle game developed and released by Axela (Company) for arcades (using their PS1-based System 11 hardware) in Japan in 1997. In Starsweep, players must use a moving cursor to rotate and toss three-width blocks of three colors onto the board so that the "stars" on each block touch that of blocks of the same color (which clears them off the board and can cause blocks to fall down to gravity, possibly causing cascading matches). The game includes both a versus mode, where garbage blocks can be sent to opponents from the top, and a single-player mode where blocks rise from the bottom (including garbage blocks and large boss blocks). It received a home Sony PlayStation release on October 30, 1997, with a budget SuperLite 1500 Series release by Success on March 2, 2000. It received a European release on September 25, 2000 as part of MiDAS Games's Pocket Price budget series, and was released in North America by A1 Games (Company) as Puzzle: Star Sweep. The American release was later digitally re-released for PlayStation Network (Concept) consoles on September 22, 2015. The game also received a Japanese-exclusive handheld release for the Game Boy (Platform) on December 19, 1997.
