Pro Yakyuu World Stadium ("Professional Baseball World Stadium") is the name of two baseball games developed and released by Namco (Company) exclusively in Japan in 1988:

  • The first, released on March 1988 for arcades (using their System I hardware), is the first in a series of arcade entries spun-off from the mainline Family Stadium (Franchise) series, with updated graphics and faster-paced matches (with a limited 2-4 inning game).
  • The second, released on May 20, 1988 for the PC Engine, is a more direct port of previous games in the Family Stadium series, with updated graphics and team rosters (including several bonus ones). It is notable for being the first baseball game for the system, narrowly beating out World Class Baseball (Game).

The arcade version received two updated revisions in 1989 and 1990: Pro Yakyuu World Stadium '89 Kaimaku-ban and Pro Yakyuu World Stadium '90 Kaimaku-ban. Both revisions have updated rosters. It also received a home conversion for Sharp X68000 (Platform) computers on December 14, 1990.

The PC Engine version later received a sequel as Pro Yakyuu World Stadium '91.

Teams (Arcade)

Like the Family Stadium series, the arcade game includes teams that are modeled after the 12 real-life Nippon Professional Baseball (Concept) teams. However, this is the first game in the overall series to dissolve the two fictional coalition teams back to their original teams (with the Railways splitting into the Hornets and Buckaroos and the FoodsFoods splitting into the Fires and Orients) and does not include the bonus Namco Stars team. It is also the first to split the teams into their corresponding leagues, rather than one "Japan League".

Urban League

Based on the NPB Central League.

Country League

Based on the NPB Pacific League.

Teams (PCE)

The PC Engine version contains a single league of 10 teams, based on that from the original Pro Yakyuu Family Stadium.

There are several hidden teams as opponents, which can be used in 2P mode with a cheat code:

  • Old Stars - Based on famous retired players.
  • Major Leaguers - Based on all-star players from Major League Baseball (Concept).
  • All Dreams - Based on characters from baseball-themed manga and anime.

There are also three hidden cheat code teams that force the player's palette into either all-black, all-red, or all-white.
