Overview

Party Hard is an action strategy game developed by Pinokl Games for the PC and Xbox One. The game has the player go through a variety of levels where the objective is to kill everyone.

Gameplay

The gameplay is relatively simple: eliminate everyone on the map. This can be done in a variety of ways: stabbing them with a knife, setting up explosive traps in the environment, calling in an exterminator service to gas a room, poisoning the punch, letting another partygoer be framed and arrested, and more. The catch is that the killer can easily be taken down if spotted and then run down by a policeman, so the player must be strategic with where and when they make their moves.

If a policeman does come after them, the player can use the environment to set up a trap that will kill the policeman chasing them, or evade them until the policeman gets tired and leaves. However, the next cop who comes will be stronger, and if the cop spots them escaping through a trapdoor, will call in an unkillable mechanic named Mario to block off that escape route.

Main Characters

Described as "Heroes" at the character select screen.

Darius

The original "Party Hard Killer," described by Detective West as "Just a guy trying to get some sleep." After being woken up at 3AM by a loud party, he decided to take matters into his own hands and killed everyone there, but then continued his quest to massacre everyone at loud parties across the country. He later turns out to be the bartender serving the Detective as the latter is telling the story in media res.

Darius is unlocked by default at the start. He has a simple knife that he stabs people with, and no other special abilities or items.

Detective John West

The policeman who lost his career hunting down the Party Hard Killer, after his daughter became one of the victims, and tells his story to a bartender one night, unaware that the bartender is Darius. At the end of the story, it is revealed that Darius is actually another personality of West, and he was the real killer all along, with the Darius personality winning in their mental struggle.

West can be unlocked after completing the game once, wearing his standard policeman's uniform. As the Policeman, West can carry dead bodies without suspicion, and has a wrench item that can be used to transfer suspicion of his kills to another partygoer. However, he can't use traps or bonus items.

The Ninja

Unlocked by completing a whole level using stealth: Without being seen, without any dead bodies spotted, which can include dumping them in hiding spots. The Ninja is easily spotted at the party, but makes up for this by turning invisible while standing still, and carries endless smoke grenades. The ninja also wields a katana, giving him a longer killing range than others.

Katie

West's daughter who was considered dead. As the story goes on, it turns out she is escaping her supposedly abusive father, and even helps the Party Hard Killer on a couple of his massacres. By the time West caught up with the two of them in Kansas, the Party Hard Killer was cradling her mutilated corpse.

Katie is the default character in the Miami Party level, but she can be unlocked for other levels by escaping the police 5 times in one level without killing them. She has to hit someone twice to kill them, making her weaker than other Heroes, but her first hit can knock someone out, allowing the player to move the body somewhere more convenient. Furthermore, just knocking out someone will not raise any suspicions of nearby partygoers, compared to killing them.

The Butcher

Unlocked by getting a 20-kill combo in one level. He is slower at moving than the other Heroes, but has a large chainsaw that can continuously run for 3 seconds, killing any partygoers it touches. The tradeoff is that he has to rest for 5 seconds after using it.

Edward One

The default Hero on the Dark Castle DLC map, and unlocked for the other levels after beating it once. Edward has to attack his victims twice, the second time applying "holy water" that makes them stay dead. Instead of calling the police, witnesses will attack and kill him themselves. Edward also has a dog companion that will kill anyone chasing him, but disappears for a few seconds after killing an attacker. Furthermore, Edward One can sort of wavedash while sprinting to shake off pursuers, and has more sprinting stamina than other characters. He wields a sword with similar range to that of the Ninja.

Hinter

A fan-created character now available at the start of the game. He only has enough life for 3 minutes and will die when the clock ticks to 0. However, with everyone he personally kills, Hinter gains an extra 10 seconds to his lifespan. He can charge himself to go faster by holding down the sprint button, but doing so makes the clock tick down quicker. Sometimes when he kills someone they will go unnoticed by the other partygoers. Hinter can't use spare clothes to evade detection.
