Overview

Monopoly Deluxe, not to be confused with an earlier adaptation of the same name, is a virtual board game developed and published by Virgin Games for both DOS and Windows PCs in 1992. A computer game adaptation of the Parker Brothers board game Monopoly, and the second adaptation for PCs after Leisure Genius's 1985-1988 game Monopoly (Game), Monopoly Deluxe is the first with a mouse-based interface. It is also the first official Windows adaptation of the board game. It was later superseded by the 1995 adaptation Monopoly CD-ROM.

Gameplay

Game Options

All rules, several of which are house rules, are disabled by default unless otherwise specified.

DOS Version

Property:

No auctions.
One lap before buying.
Unmortgage only on turn.
Automatic rent.
No trading.
No computer offers.

Building:

No auctions.
Unlimited supply.
Build only on turn.

Jail Punishment:

No renting.
No unmortgaging.
No building.
No trading.

Free Parking:

Collects fines and taxes.
Ante. (default $500).
Windfall (default $10 x re-roll). Doubles re-roll limit (default 2). Jailed for 3 doubles. (Enabled by default).

Misc:

Short Game (Three houses -> hotel)
Time Limit Game (default 1 hr.)
Go bonus (default $200)

Windows Version

Landing on GO Doubles Salary - Grants $400 instead of the normal $200 when landing on the Go space.
Free Parking Collects Fines - Allow the "Free Parking jackpot", where money collected from certain events can be given to the player who lands on Free Parking. If enabled, the starting ante can be changed (default 500).
Trading Allowed (enabled by default) - Allow players to trade their properties with each other.
Have Auctions (enabled by default) - Allow properties to be auctioned off instead of purchased.
Property Transactions Conducted From Jail (enabled by default) - Allow players in Jail to perform transactions.
Unlimited Housing - Allow infinite supply of buildings in the Bank (rather than the standard 32 houses and 12 hotels).
One Lap Minimum Before Purchases - Deny the purchase of any property until that player goes one lap around the board.
Time Limit - Have a restricted time limit, where the game ends after a certain amount of real time (default being 1 hr.) and the player with the most money wins.
