Overview

Sega Yo-nin Uchi Mahjong MJ, also known simply as MJ, or as Sega The 4-Players Mah-Jong MJ, is a digital riichi mahjong game developed by Sega-AM2 and released by Sega (Company) for arcades (using their Dreamcast (Platform)-based NAOMI hardware) in Japan on July 2002. The first in Sega's MJ (Franchise) series of mahjong games, MJ is one of the earliest to present arcade mahjong in a "satellite terminal" setup (previously used for their Derby Owners Club (Franchise) series of horse racing games), where each player has their own private terminal that is interconnected with the seven others (along with a larger display showing standings). It was compatible with an online service, called MJ.NET, for tracking rankings and customization. It later received an online-compatible revision on July 2003, known as Sega Yo-nin Uchi Mahjong MJ: Network Taisen Ver., that allowed online multiplayer with other arcade venues throughout Japan. It also received numerous sequels on a variety of Sega arcade hardware, along with a home version.
