Overview

Indy 800 is an overhead car racing game developed by Kee Games (Company) and released by Atari (Company) for arcades in North America in 1975, with a later Japanese release by Nakamura Seisakusho. A successor to the studio's earlier Gran Trak 10 (Game), Indy 800 has up to eight players racing around the track at once, each with their own color car. Players are scored two points each time they pass the check point, with the winner having the most points by the end of the credit. Rather than an upright cabinet, the game is known for its custom table-style cabinet, with two players on each of the four sides of the machine looking down at the 25" display. Also attached to the decorative top of the housing are mirrors, allowing others to spectate. The game later received a smaller four-player version in 1976, known as Indy 4, with a new track design. The cabinet has two players per side away from each-other, allowing operators to position one of the other sides against a wall. Atari later made a simpler adaptation for the Atari 2600 (Platform) with Indy 500 (Game).
