Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, also known in the European PS1 version as Gex: Deep Cover Gecko, is a 3D third-person platformer developed by Crystal Dynamics (Company) and published by Eidos Interactive (Company) for the Sony PlayStation in North America on March 1999 and in Europe on April 1999, with a Nintendo 64 (Platform) release (co-published by Crave Entertainment (Company)) in North America on September 2000 and in Europe on July 2000.
The third and final game in the Gex (Franchise) trilogy of platformers, Deep Cover Gecko puts players back in the role of the wise-cracking, TV-watching gecko Gex (Character) (voiced by Dana Gould in the North American release and by Red Dwarf actor Danny John-Jules in the European version) as he seeks to rescue boxom spy babe Agent Xtra (who is portrayed in live-action segments by actress Marliece Andrada, then-known for her role in the TV show Baywatch) from his arch-nemesis Rez.
Much of the game plays similar to the game's predecessor, Gex: Enter the Gecko, where Gex navigates through various levels themed on different TV and movie themes in order to collect Remotes and unlock new areas. Throughout the game, Gex has a variety of "disguises" in each level, some of which gives him special abilities (such as gliding and super-strength), and can pilot various vehicles (including a kangaroo, a snowboard, and a tank).
The game also received a handheld adaptation for the Game Boy Color (Platform) in November 1999, known a Gex 3: Deep Pocket Gecko. Developed by David A. Palmer Productions, this version is a side-scrolling platformer similar to the GBC version of the previous game.
The PS1 version later received a digital PlayStation Network (Concept) re-release (as a PSone Classics (Concept) title) in North America on October 1, 2009 and in Europe on July 6, 2011. It was also included in the Gex Trilogy (Game) compilation on June 16, 2025.
Like in earlier Gex games, each level is themed after particular TV and movie themes. There are 50 remotes in total, and earning all of them unlocks a bonus behind-the-scenes video clip.
