Overview

Garfield, not to be confused with both the unreleased Atari 2600 game and the 2011 mobile game of the same name, is a 3D puzzle-platformer developed by The Code Monkeys and published by Hip Games (Company) for the PlayStation 2 (Platform), exclusively in Europe, on November 19, 2004. A PC (Platform) version was also released in Europe on November 26, 2004 and in North America on May 17, 2005. The first 3D game based on the comic strip of the same name, Garfield has players controlling the orange tabby cat of the same name as he scrambles to clean up the mess in the Arbuckle house before his owner Jon returns home (lest the cat gets put on a diet as punishment). Armed with a vacuum cleaner, Garfield must move around the house and use the vacuum to suck objects up and blow them back at their proper location. He can also use the vacuum to open up and close cabinet doors and drawers (which can be used as platforms), can both manually push/pull furniture for platforming, and can interact with storage boxes to keep his inventory tidy. While he doesn't have any enemies to contend with, he does have an in-game time limit.

Gameplay

Players control the eponymous feline Garfield and his attempts to clean up his owner Jon's house before Jon gets home from grocery shopping. The game is a loose, open-ended adventure game where Garfield must reach and collect various misplaced items around the house and put them back in their correct locations. This is done with the use of a vacuum cleaner, "sucking" up items and "blowing" them back into their correct spots. Players are limited to a few rooms initially, but after fully restoring one room the player is given a key to a new room. Most of the early unlocked rooms are on the ground floor, moving to the first floor and then finally outside, the attic and the basement. Players can also collect puzzle pieces for an in-game puzzle, as well as partake in several mini-games which will net rewards such as house items and more puzzle pieces. The game has a generous time limit. The game also features an in-game "classic video game" cartridge, which once restored to its proper place can be played. It's a Columns (Franchise)-esque puzzle game.
