Galactic Protector
Released only in Japan and requiring use of a special paddle-based controller, Galactic Protector is a spin-off of Sega's Fantasy Zone series, tasking the Opa Opa with protecting cutesy planets from dangerous debris.
Overview
Galactic Protector is a sci-fi single-screen shoot-'em-up developed and published by Sega (Company) for the Sega Mark III exclusively in Japan on February 21, 1988. One of the four official games requiring the Paddle Control peripheral (the others being BMX Trial: Alex Kidd, Megumi Rescue, and Woody Pop (Game)), Galactic Protector stars two Opa Opa (Character) spaceships (of Fantasy Zone (Franchise) fame) as they orbit around small, comical planets and defend them (and themselves) from alien spacecraft, asteroids, and other debris. The game ends after either 25 rounds are completed (which gives an ending screen), the current planet takes too much damage, or if both players lose all their remaining lives. It was later included in the Japan-exclusive 2008 PlayStation 2 (Platform) compilation SEGA AGES 2500 Series Vol. 3: Fantasy Zone Complete Collection.
