It's not just about flippers and bumpers anymore in this wild take on virtual pinball!

Overview

923094-flipnic_1.jpg Flipnic: Ultimate Pinball, known in-game, in Japan and in Europe simply as Flipnic, is a virtual pinball game developed by Sony Computer Entertainment and published for the PlayStation 2 in Japan (by Sony Computer Entertainment) on August 27, 2003, in Europe (by Ubi Soft) on January 23, 2004, and in North America (by Capcom (Company)) on July 13, 2005. Building on traditional pinball, Flipnic features four themed pinball "tables", each with their own (often unrealistic) gimmicks, such as several areas to move between, special mini-games, and unique controls.

Tables

Three of the four tables have an "A" and "B" variant, with the B version being mirrored.

  • Biology is set in a tropical jungle, with several areas of different shapes and sizes. Key objectives include freezing the environment over and revealing a hidden path behind the Slot Chance waterfall. The 2P table is a recreation of foosball in a side view.
  • Metallurgy is set in a metallic-themed world with a lot of rails. A key mechanic with this table is an area where the ball rolls along a grid and moves around magnetic pegs it hits, releasing away from the peg when the flipper is pressed. The 2P table has both players playing basketball to score points.
  • Optics takes place in a world with neon glow and plenty of flippers. The overarching objective involves collecting five different colors from throughout the table. The 2P table resembles bagatelle.
  • Geometry is themed after 80's retro video pinball. Instead of flippers, players control a paddle that moves back-and-forth (similar to block kuzushi games in a 2D perspective). In addition, the table only has one extra-large area. It is locked by default, and there is no "B" variant. The 2P table represents vintage pong clones.

In the main Original Game mode, players not only have to progress through all seven table variants, but also four "Evolution" encounters that serve as boss battles (with a very minimal playfield and a boss to hit).
