The Final Fantasy series gets its first HD-2D treatment.

Overview

A remake of the now-ended free-to-play mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, but with the monetization removed and playable offline. Redone with better graphics and pathing in the HD-2D style.

Plot

Rain and Lasswell, two knights of Grandshelt and airship commanders, are attacked by an enemy force and crash land near the Earth Shrine. While looking for help, they stumble over a mysterious Dark Knight destroying the crystal inside before he easily overpowers them. However, a mysterious woman emerges from the crystal, using her power to save the two knights from death.

Fearing the consequences of the evil knight Veritas of the Dark continuing to destroy the eight magic crystals around the world, Rain and Laswell begin a new journey together, to stop Veritas before he can complete his evil plan.

Characters

Heroes

Rain, a respected knight from the Kingdom of Grandshelt who follows in his father's footsteps, though he resents Sir Raegan for abandoning him and letting his mother die in the past.
Lasswell, Rain's fellow knight and adopted brother. In contrast to Rain, Lasswell sees Sir Raegan as a noble knight after he raised him when Lasswell's birth parents were killed by monsters.
Fina, an amnesiac girl who bears a strange resemblance to the girl Rain saw within the Earth Crystal.
Lid, an airship engineer from Dirnado, following in the footsteps of her brother, and seeks to become the next legendary Cid.
Jake, the charismatic leader of the Raven rebel army in the Zoldaad Empire, seeking to overthrow the tyrannical Emperor Sozhe.
Nichol, a military tactician from the Olderion Federation, and a Warden of the Waters who guards the Water Crystal.
Sakura, a mage from the magic nation of Mysidia, actually 700 years old despite her tiny stature.

Gameplay

Similar to older Final Fantasy titles, the player can explore the world of Lapis through the eyes of the heroes they control. Visiting towns, fighting through dungeons, battling monsters and enemies of all types. In battle, players can use up to 4 allies and, with a few exceptions, make use of their party's skills and attacks to get the enemy side's HP down to 0. Battles are done in turn-based style instead of the more recent Active Time Battle (ATB) meter. Resonance also borrows from the Octopath Traveler series, where enemies have a stagger meter that increases as the player exploits their weaknesses, and once full, the enemy enters a staggered state where they temporarily take increased damage, while also giving their own party members an extra turn.

Visions

To make up for the lack of gacha in this game, the Visions of other characters from across the Final Fantasy franchise will be equipable to one of the four party members, adding their own unique skills to those already possessed or learned by the main party. For example, the Vision of Y'shtola adds healing and water-elemental spells, while the Vision of Cloud will allow the attached character to hit enemies with lightning spells and new physical attacks.
