Overview

Dance Summit 2001, also known as Dance Summit 2001: Bust A Move, is a rhythm game developed by Metro and published by Enix for the PlayStation 2 (Platform) exclusively in Japan on November 2, 2000. The third installment of the Bust a Move / Bust a Groove series, Dance Summit 2001 reworks the series by removing the one-on-one versus element and instead has four players dancing as a group. In addition, the game plays more like the Parappa the Rapper (Franchise) series, with all players following a single sequence of commands to the beat (with a special "Free" system that determines which players get their own solo sequence to follow). Unlike previous games in the series, this one did not receive an overseas release.

Teams

Each team dances in their own specific style. In addition, completing the game unlocks the profile for the team member with the highest score.

Starting Roster

School Mates (Banbi, Candy, Betty, Olive) - A group of high-school (and junior-high) students who dance with "Cutie Hiphop" style. Their stage, "Queen's HIGH SCHOOL", takes place in a school.
Data Be Bops (Suzuki, Honda, 3D, G-Pan) - A group of high-school gamers who dance with "Breaking" style. Their stage, "北 2001", takes place in an arcade.
Cusu-Cusu (Cindy, Sahara, Kei, Me) - A pair of college students dressed in native African garb (along with a pair of cursed dancers they picked up in their trip to Africa) who dance with "African" style. Their stage, "Jungle Rock", takes place in a jungle.
Flower Dancing Team (Cherry, Marquerite, Saffron, Jasmine) - A group of cross-dressing company employees who dance with "House" style. Their stage, "Hanazono", takes place in a dance studio.

Unlockable Teams

Galaxy4 (Miranda, Planet, Orion, Apollo) - A group of peace-seeking aliens who dance with "Disco" style. Their stage, "DISCO 21", takes place in a sci-fi disco ring.
Discos Estrus (Micro, Utan, Dragon, Texas) - A trio of luchadors (and their orangutan mascot) who dance with "Capoeira" style. Their stage, "MUSCLE STADIUM", takes place in a wrestling venue.
Jumbo Max (Bat, Meat, Jason, Duck) - A group of hooded hooligans who dance with "Gangster Hiphop" style. Their stage, "79 street", takes place in the slums.
Far East Commander (Imawa, Tomoe, Shogun, Hamamatsu) - A group of time-traveling ninjas from the future who dance with "Jazz" style. Their stage, "IGA-BASE", takes place in a futuristic ninja base.

The game includes a total of 18 tracks, eight in Normal mode, eight in the unlockable Remix mode, and two bonus Remix tracks that require a cheat code.
