Chaos Control is a sci-fi first-person rail shooter developed by both Infogrames Multimedia and Philips Interactive Media France and published by Philips for the CD-i, DOS PCs, and Macintosh computers in 1995. It also received Japanese releases by Virgin Interactive Entertainment for both the Sega Saturn on December 29, 1995 and for the Sony PlayStation on October 4, 1996.
Set in futuristic 2071, players control Lt. Jessica Darkhill, a pilot of the Orbital Defense Forces, as she fends off an alien invasion from the savage Kesh Rhan. After liberating New York City (Location) in a space fighter, she must enter cyberspace to neutralize a virus, and then infiltrate the Kesh Rhan flagship in a prototype fighter in an effort to destroy them.
The game is known for its use of pre-rendered 3D full-motion video for its in-game scenes, where the enemy ships are also pre-rendered along with the environment. Destroying enemies do not remove them from the field, instead displaying a smoke cloud over them. The PC and Mac versions use a lower-detailed render of the FMV, with the CD-i, PS1, and Saturn versions having more textured scenes.
The Saturn version later received an enhanced re-release in Japan on November 22, 1996 as Chaos Control Remix, adding two-player multiplayer and light gun support. The enhanced version also received a European release from Infogrames in 1996, known by its original Chaos Control title.
The game received a sequel in 1996, known as Solar Crusade (Game), and the PC version later received a digital re-release by Classics Digital via Steam (Concept) on February 8, 2018.
