Plot

On the continent of Valandis, three kingdoms are locked in a seemingly endless war: Taryn, Gravos, and Escanya. The Band of the Iron Bull, a mercenary group, is hired to shatter a crystal to allow Taryn forces to establish a beachhead. However, when Glenn successfully completes the job, he triggers an explosion that destroys all living things in a large radius. With no side willing to take responsibility for the magical weapon of mass destruction, the three nations decide to sign a peace treaty and cease hostilities.

One year later, Lenne, the runaway princess of Taryn, comes across a plot by General Matthye to sabotage the anniversary of the peace talks. Lenne and her fellow runaway noble Robb try to foil the plan, stumbling across Glenn and Kylian, the only surviving mercenaries from a year ago who are trying to find the origin of the "Grimoire" and destroy it. Meanwhile, the upper class thespian Victor is in the city to enjoy the festivities, and "The Red Succubus," a thief named Sienna, is using the festivities as cover to pick some pockets.

When these festivities are attacked by a demon, Matthye kills his own country's Ambassador in the chaos and blames it on Escanya. Lenne leads the motley crew out of the city, hoping to persuade her brother Prince Frederik, the de facto head of Taryn, of Matthye's treachery. However, she soon learns that Frederik is aware of Matthye's actions, and in fact plans to use the Grimoire again to force the remaining holdouts in Valandis to surrender to him.

Characters

Heroes

Glenn, a Sky Armor engineer working for Iron Bull, the main protagonist.
Kylian, Glenn's comrade in the Band of the Iron Bull, who has greater ambitions for the group.
Lenne, the Princess of Taryn who fled her castle to see what lies outside of her walled domain, eventually joining the Town's Watch of Farnsport.
Robb, Lenne's childhood friend, bodyguard, and resourceful ranger who joins her in the Town's Watch.
Victor, an old, famous playwright who knows more than he lets on.
Sienna, an infamous thief known as the "Red Succubus" for her bright red hair and outfit. She also owns an airship called the Himmelskaiser.
Ba'Thraz, an odd reptilian mercenary who can summon weapons out of thin air.

Villains

Frederik, the de-facto ruler of Taryn in place of his invalid father, and the official King of Taryn once his father passes away. He plans to use war to unite the continent of Valandis under his own rule.
Gwayn, Frederik's top advisor who appears to have his own motives, alongside his wife June.
Matthye, one of Frederik's Generals who carried out his plan, but loses an eye an arm after Frederik hears that Matthye tried to kill Lenne.
Godfrey, Kennrich, Alena, and Guston, Generals of the Taryn Kingdom.
