Overview

Blazing Chrome is a 2D indie sci-fi run-and-gun action game developed by JoyMasher (Company) and published digitally by The Arcade Crew (Company) for the Xbox One (Platform), PlayStation 4 (Platform), Nintendo Switch (Platform), and PC (Platform) on July 11, 2019. A deliberately-retro throwback game similar to the Brazilian studio's earlier games Oniken (Game) and Odallus: The Dark Call, Blazing Chrome is heavily inspired by the 16-bit Konami (Company) games Contra: Hard Corps and Contra III: The Alien Wars. It is set in a post-apocalyptic future (circa 21XX), where an AI-controlled robot army conquers the world, leaving humanity to small teams of resistance fighters. Players guide either resistance fighter Mavra or her converted robot companion Doyle as they take on the robots behind enemy lines. Along with two-player co-operative multiplayer, the game features a four-weapon selection system (reminiscent of Contra: Hard Corps), a companion unit system ("battlebots", reminiscent of the Gradius (Franchise) series), and a rideable mech system (similar to the Metal Slug (Franchise) series). The game was later ported to arcades (using exA-Arcadia hardware). Released on April 15, 2021 as Blazing Chrome AC, this version features an exclusive bonus character (Zaku from Oniken) and an exclusive soundtrack from veteran Konami composer Motoaki Furukawa (Person). The game received quality of life improvements such as new voices, improved input lag over console versions and stage redesigns.
