Overview
Big Farm Story is a 3rd person farming-simulation game developed by Goodgame Studios. It will be released into early access on Steam for Windows on August 20th 2020. The player gets gifted their grandpa's farm. When the player arrives there the farm is found in a bad shape and their grandpa is missing. From there the story begins and the player starts to return the farm to its former glory and to find their grandpa. While searching for the grandpa, the player can explore the different environments, meet the citizens of the townlet, learn about their stories and make new friends. Through different story lines and quests the player is able to progress in the game, get rewards and unlock new features.
Gameplay
Main Farm
The main farm is owned by the player, who has inherited it from the missing grandpa. In the beginning the farm is in a bad condition as the whole area was hit by a storm. It needs to be re-build by the player throughout the game. Animal stables and fields can also be found on the farm. To progress in the game, the player has to plant, harvest, and tend the fields, as well as take care of all the animals.
Customize one’s home
The player is able to customize their farm house to their own liking. In the beginning, they already have a set of decorations to use. Further decorations can be obtained throughout the game. There is also a shop where furniture can be bought. This is owned by Owen Carpenter, a villager the player meets in the game.
Taking care of Animals
Animals and animal supplies can be bought from the neighbouring Shepherd’s farm store. The player purchases a baby animal, e.g. a chicklet and has to name it, care for it, give treats and pet the animal. After it got enough care, it will grow into a chicken. If fed with chicken feed, it produces Eggs, which can be sold. When grown up, the chicken can still be cared for and level up until it reaches the maximum level.
Explore different environments
In Big Farm Story the player can walk through a whole new world and explore different areas and get to know the people that live there. They can meet the different farmer families, the villagers and find out about their personal history. Through various quests and just for fun the player can explore the other farms, the townlet and the forest. Different resources can be collected and hidden treasures can be found. In addition, there are some mini-games, like fishing, chopping wood and the extraction of stones. Each requires skills that can be learned by the player.
