Overview

The Victorian Era was a period in British history during Queen Victoria's reign from June 1837 to January 1901. This era saw the United Kingdom (Location)'s industrial and economical growth as one of the world's most powerful nations to this day, as the British expanded to and took over numerous countries around the world. At its height, the British Empire had control of Canada, India, Australia, and multiple African countries. While this period was largely a peaceful one for those living in England specifically, it also represented England at a time when it was particularly conservative, with sexual freedoms and rights for women still a long way off. And while the rise of industrialism helped to make England a technological superpower, it also saw much injustice and oppression against working-class people, who often had to labor in harsh and unsafe conditions. The era has been represented multiple times in video games, as well as being the basis for some fictional settings.
