A technology demonstration is a display of a product or application intended to demonstrate the technical capabilities of the platform running that software.

Overview

A tech demo (short for technology demonstration) is a prototype or early version of a product or application.  They are used as a showcase of the ideas, concepts, methods and features of a given product.  Sometimes they are used as demonstrations for journalists, investors or customers.

On occasion, tech demos are rigged to deceive journalists, investors or customers into believing that the technology is operational.  As an example, pre-rendered footage may be shown in place of gameplay footage, such as the Killzone 2 (Game) trailer showed at Sony's press conference in 2005.
