The tenth annual PAX Prime took place August 30-September 2, 2013 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington. It was the first 4-day PAX.

PAX Prime 2013 was the first Penny Arcade Expo to span four days, rather than three. It took place from August 30th to September 2nd, 2013 and was once again held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle (Location), Washington (Location).

The Storytime (keynote) speaker for PAX Prime 2013 was Peter Molyneux (Person).

Registration & Attendance

PAX Prime 2013, at the time, was the fastest Penny Arcade Expo to completely sell out of passes; all four-day and one-day passes were sold within six hours on their first day of availability on April 17, 2013. Organizers chose to utilize a different registration method than past shows; PAX Prime 2012 (Concept) registration was marred by server problems on day one that led to a delay and change of online vendor before sales continued.

For PAX Prime 2013, the online vendor ShowClix established a queue system that would require people to wait while those that came first bought their passes. Customers had an eight-minute window from the point of exiting the queue to fill out and submit an order. Despite these steps, traffic throttled the system, forcing the vendor to perform back-end maintenance and expand server capacity in order to keep up.

The PAX 10

A panel of 50 industry experts rated dozens of submissions to narrow it down to just ten. To be eligible for entry, games cannot have outside funding, cannot be mods of existing games, and must be in at least beta form. Previous games featured in The PAX 10 include Bastion, Audiosurf, Johann Sebastian Joust (Game), Machinarium, Fez, and The Maw.

The Omegathon

The Omegathon is an annual tournament held at PAX that pits 20 randomly selected attendees in a three day marathon of games that span the spectrum of the gaming universe. After each round, some participants are eliminated. Each year, the final game is held secret until moments before the final two Omeganauts enter battle.
