A midquel is a game that is primarily set in a time period concurrent with the events of a previously-published game in the same continuity. Sometimes this might be a parallel side story or gaiden, but it could also be a story featuring the protagonist of the earlier game, showing events inserted into the middle of the previous story. This concept should not be confused with an interquel, which takes place in between the events of two previously-published games.
