Legendary pokemon found at Level 40 in Pokemon Silver, Level 70 in Pokemon Gold, and in Pokemon Crystal. He is the Mascot of Pokemon Silver.

XD001, or Shadow Lugia, is a special Lugia encountered in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. this Lugia is the most powerful of all the shadow Pokemon, and also is the first of a special type of shadow Pokemon, one which supposedly cannot be purified. the effects of the shadowing on this Lugia is shown on its exterior, as it has completely changed its color to a deep purple.

In The Anime

Lugia was the focus of the second Pokemon movie, as a rare Pokemon collector named Lawrence III kidnapped Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno in an effort to bait Lugia out, ending up throwing the ecosystem out of whack.

In the anime, Lugia has a baby, which also ends up in trouble. This directly contradicts the games, where the Legendaries are genderless. The only genderless Pokemon able to breed is Ditto (possibly to deter people from breeding Legendaries and giving them to their friends so they don't have to go through the trouble of battling them).
