Grip mechanics vary from game to game, although the common thread is that they all are about the player's ability to grab and hold onto a object. Some games have a grip meter a gauge, similar to a stamina meter, where it will drain the longer the player is holding on, such as in Metal Gear Solid (Game), or Shadow of the Colossus (Game). Other games use grip mechanics as a small QTEmechanic, where the player must rapidly press a button in order to grab onto an object before they fall off.
