A popular name for the killcount (scoring system) in first person shooters, origin is Doom. The name comes from fragmentation grenades in that these are mainly antipersonnel weapons, the meaning is obscured greatly when referring to frags in games.

The equation of a player's frag score is the number of kills minus the number of suicides the player has committed. For example, a person with 100 kills and 50 suicides would have a frag score of 50. It is vital to understand that suicides are not only caused by directly causing damage to oneself. In many games, kills caused by the environment (eg. falling off a ledge, being crushed by a piston) will be considered a suicide, unless the environmental death was triggered by another player, in which case the player triggering the event will receive a frag without the victim losing one.
