The Evolution Engine is developer Digital Extreme's in house created game engine. The first game to use this engine was Dark Sector.

For years Digital Extremes (Company) used versions of the Unreal Engine for developing their games, but for Dark Sector (Game) they created the Evolution Engine in house.      It was reported in February 2011 that The Darkness II (Game) would be running on this engine.
