Overview
Yuèbèi Xīng (月孛星) is one of three children of Sūn Wùkōng named in Journey to the South, and is the one that gets a featuring role alongside her father. The book's protagonist, Huáguāng Dàdì, needed the Peaches of Immortality to calm his mother and revert her from her status as a cannibalistic monster. He masqueraded as Wùkōng to do so, and so the Monkey King got the blame. Wùkōng was given a chance to find the true perpetrator, and he and Yuèbèi set out to find them. They find Huáguāng at Mt. Lilou and he fights with Wùkōng. Just when it seems that Wùkōng has beaten him, Huáguāng unleashes a magical Fire Elixir that engulfs the Monkey King in heavenly flames, causing him to dive into the East Sea in an attempt to douse them. Yuèbèi then pulls out a skull that she carries and chants Huáguāng's name, which stuns him and gives him a terrible headache, as well as curses him to die in three days. Sensing his disciple was in mortal danger, the Buddha of the Flame King's Light arrives and attempts to mediate a treaty between the parties. He gets Yuèbèi to revoke the curse in exchange for bringing Huáguāng to justice. In the end, the Jade Emperor forgives both sides and Huáguāng and Wùkōng become spiritual brothers.

Touhou Monjusen: Bubbling Imaginary Treasures
In this Touhou fan game (though authorized due to the Touhou Project (Franchise)'s structure), Yuèbèi goes under the name Sūn Yuèbèi in Chinese, or Son Geppai in Japanese and English. She is a bonus boss in the game, and takes more after her father than her inspiration. She also has pink hair and is traditionally cute, whereas the novel's Yuèbèi was described as hideous. She dresses in a feminine version of an outfit often seen depicted on her father, complete with jingu (headband), and wields the Rúyì Jīngū Bàng.
