Use in Kingdom Hearts III
When players first land in the Toy Box world (based on Toy Story) in Kingdom Hearts III (Game), they are treated to a modern Final Fantasy (Franchise)-esque CG trailer for a Square Enix (Company) game called Verum Rex which features him and several others trying to rescue a women while fighting of large mechs with fantastic weapons and magic. The trailer ends with an announcement that the game is available now in both standard and limited editions. When the scene transitions to Andy's Room, it is revealed that it is revealed that Hamm and Rex are fans of the game. When the toys meet Sora (Character), Donald and Goofy (Character) (who have taken on the appearance of toys due to Donald's magic), Hamm and Rex confuse Sora for Yozora. Rex says he's Yozora's biggest fan and has leveled him to level 47 but is having trouble with Bahamut (Character). Later on, they all wander into a video game store and Rex shows Sora the cover of Verum Rex implying they are one and the same. Sora starts to be somewhat convinced due to the clothes looking similar. Sora asks Donald to explain what's going on but Donald believes it's not him and could in fact be Riku (Character) as Goofy remarks that Riku would make a great action figure.
Ties to Noctis and Final Fantasy Versus XIII/XV
Part of the reason for the long time between Kingdom Hearts II (Game) and Kingdom Hearts III, was Tetsuya Nomura (Person)'s team was working on a Final Fantasy off shoot called Versus XIII. Early trailers showed a game closer to Kingdom Hearts in its combat then Final Fantasy. However, the game went through numerous delays and was eventually re-branded as Final Fantasy XV (Game) with Hajime Tabata (Person) taking over development of the game. The final game had several differences from the Versus XIII trailers, like different world design, characters being redesigned or replaced, and a fairly different combat system. Fans believe Yozora and Verum Rex is a take off on Noctis and Versus XIII/XV for several reasons. The character has one red eye and one blue eye like they were changed in the transition from Versus XIII to XV. Yozora's allies evoke Gladiolus Amicitia (Character), Ignis Scientia (Character) and Prompto Argentum (Character), while the female character looks more like Stella Nox Fleuret (Character) from Versus XIII then the reworked character Luna from XV and she wears a star necklace like Stella's star earrings. What's more both main characters translate to "Night Sky", with Noctis's full name being translated from Latin, while Yozora is translated from Japanese.
