Wrinkly Kong

CHARACTER

The grandmother of DK Jr and wife of Cranky Kong (also known as Donkey Kong), Wrinkly Kong has appeared in several of the major Donkey Kong titles. She died between DKC3 and DK64 and is now a ghost.

Relation to Modern Donkey Kong

Before she died Wrinkly was married to Cranky. They are the grandparents of the current Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr. Their relationship has been unclear at times as the franchise changed hands, but currently the situation is well understood. Wrinkly and Cranky are DK's grandparents, but they raised him as a son.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

Wrinkly Kong made her first debut in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest for the SNES, where she manages the "Kong Kollege" of which Diddy and Dixie can either save their progress, learn information about varoius gameplay elements, or attain hints as to how to beat the boss of the current world. She repeats this task in Donkey Kong Land II.

In the GameBoy Advance remake, the player can also choose an option called "Wrinkly's Task," in which Diddy and Dixie fulfill "homework assignments." By fulfilling the assignments, pictures are placed within a scrapbook, with each completed page of the book resulting in a DK Coin. Wrinkly's classroom includes three incorrect math problems on the blackboard in the background: 9 / 3 = 6, 8 x 1 = 9, 4 2 =5.

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

In the SNES version of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Wrinkly once again provides the player with the ability to save his or her game, but no longer provides hints to gameplay. Wrinkly now resides in "Wrinkly's Save Cave," where she is seen either sleeping, dancing, or playing a Nintendo 64. Her cave is also the home to the various Banana Birds found throughout the game, and once the player has found all

Banana Birds, it becomes impossible to save the game, as entering the cave triggers a cutscene that leads to the "true ending" to the trilogy. Wrinkly returns in Donkey Kong Land III (Game) to save the progress of the Kongs again, but she no longer looks after the Banana Birds, as they do not make an appearance.

In the GameBoy Advance version of the game, Wrinkly's role is significantly lessened, as she is no longer in charge of the player's save progress, but rather is only a "spiritual follower" of the Banana Birds. Her location is renamed to "Wrinkly's Retreat," a sort of tomb with a sundial that is vastly different from the dark cave of the original.

Donkey Kong 64

Wrinkly now lives in Wrinkly Doors at the beginning of every area (except Hideout Helm), and it is revealed that she has passed away since the ending of Donkey Kong Country 3. Much like her original role in Donkey Kong Country 2, Wrinkly provides gameplay hints to the Kongs, though this time she does so through "supernatural powers" that result in half-truths with, at times, key information missing.

player has collected all of the Crystal Coconuts in the game. Her partner is Kritter (Concept), a Kremling, and she is ranked with a good jump and average attack. In the main game, Wrinkly also assists Cranky Kong (Character) in teaching Donkey Kong the various controls of the game, most notably how to attack.

DK: Jungle Climber

Wrinkly makes only a brief cameo appearance in DK: Jungle Climber's opening cutscene, in which she stands alongside Cranky Kong holding a white umbrella on the Kongs' vacation to Sun Sun Island.

Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast

The only Kong not to appear on the game's start screen, Wrinkly is a secret unlockable character with top agility and average boost and speed who is unlocked in Candy's Challenge #26: Let Wrinkly Kong Win!, in which she must, as the name suggests, come in first place. Her in-game rival is Kopter (Character), a Kremling from Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Wrinkly Kong also appears as both a trophy and a sticker ( 4 launch resistance against battering attacks) in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The artwork of the sticker is based on DK: King of Swing. The description of her trophy reads:

"The wife of Cranky Kong. Wrinkly first appeared as director of Kong Kollege, where she provided game hints. Did you know ' ' 'King K. Rool was also a student of hers? After her passing, she appeared in Donkey Kong 64 as a ghost, where again... she provided hints."
