Childhood friend to the Elric brothers, Winry Rockbell is the grand daughter of Pinako Rockbell a famous automail mechanic and is her apprentice. Her parents were both doctors who died during the Isvalan/Ishbalan rebellion. Throughout the series she repairs Ed's automail repeatedly.

Winry's character can best be described as being very kind and optimistic. She is an orphaned child who lost her parents in the Ishval war. They were serving as doctors their. She is completely fascinated and obsessed over any type of machinery. She feels very passionate about her work. She is raised by the world famous automail engineer, her grandmother, Pinako. Having her as her guardian and also being amazed with automail has also made Winry almost as skilled as her grandmother in repairing and building automail. They own their own automail shop as well. She is commonly seen with Edward and Elric, who are her childhood friends. They have a very close relationship with them, often she is seen repairing Edward's automail. She will even travel to fix his automail when he is off in a far away region.
