Backstory
Vira Lilie was raised at the Erste Empire's military academy on the island of Albion. Vira never formed any real connections with anyone, as everyone was too intimidated by her curt demeanor and natural abilities, until one day when another cadet named Katalina approached her on a personal level to become her friend. Vira soon became obsessed with Katalina, the only person to show her kindness without any ulterior motives. She spent every waking moment thinking about her, trying to appeal to her, and keeping up her studies and combat skills to stand on even ground with her, though there was no sign Katalina was aware of Vira's attraction to her in return.
Around the time of Graduation, the Albion citadel held a tournament where the winner would become the Lord Commander of Albion. Vira met Katalina in the Finals, but Katalina subtly threw the match, deciding she didn't want to be stuck on the island, while Vira won and became bound to the citadel and its Primal Beast, Luminiera.
Some years later, The Captain and the crew of the Grandcypher were invited to Albion when Vira found that Katalina was on the airship, finally taking her chance to reunite with her beloved. Vira offered a truce to The Captain and their crew in exchange for Katalina staying with her on Albion. However, other Generals of the Erste Empire set a trap to eliminate The Captain and their crew for good. The Captain and Katalina had to fight their way out of Albion, first defeating Vira, and then her Primal Beast Luminiera when it merged with a nearby Erste battleship. After the battle, Katalina rescued Vira from the rubble of the destroyed citadel before the Grandcypher crew continued with their previous mission.
Though never explicitly stated in the main story, it's implied in multiple side-stories that Vira decided to leave her post to join Katalina and the crew of the Grandcypher. Though still obsessed with Katalina, Vira slowly learns to open up to others on the ship, including The Captain.
Gameplay
The many faces of Vira
Vira is one of the most prolific characters in the game. Originally becoming a playable character (SR rarity) with the June 2014 main story update, further updates introduced different versions of Vira as playable characters (all SSR rarity).
As of June 2020, there are a combined seven different playable versions of Vira, spanning all six elements.
Vira generally wields a saber in combat, but some of her other versions wield different weapons. For example: her Grand form wields a poleaxe, her Wind form comes with a laser-blasting robot of herself, her Water form has her controlling a small mechanized version of Katalina called Lady Katapillar that can attack with metallic fists, missiles, or lasers.
