She is the seventh character that joins Mario's party in Paper Mario. Sushie is a fish that lives with the Yoshis at Lavalava island. Sushie's special skill is her ability to swim across bodies of water with mario and dive under the water.

Sushie is a resident of Yoshi Island and the mother of Sashimie. She also serves as the caretaker for the Yoshi children. Right after Mario arrives on the island, the yoshi kids play a prank on her and run off into the jungle to play hide and seek. Mario agrees to help find the kids and Sushie will join the party. When in the field, Sushie allows Mario to climb on her back from certain wooden platforms and swim. Sushie can also dive underwater for a short time allowing Mario to collect coins. Against fire enemies, Sushie is a great help with her water attack with her final move, Tidal Wave, being the most powerful in the game, with a maximum of 12 damage.
