Overview
Samuel "Slim" Wexler is the protagonist of Spaced Out!! and its sequel, Spaced Out!! II. Although he only shows briefly in the former, he appears throughout the latter in story and conversation scenes.
Character biography
Slim is a fighter pilot of Māori descent, and was an employee of the Royal New Zealand (Location) Air Force. He has one older step-sister, Amy, who is of white European ancestry. In the year 2088, massive aliens of wildly different appearances, seemingly unintelligent and somehow capable of surviving space travel with no external apparatuses, began heading towards Earth (Location). The world's governments sent off their best fighters to stop the invaders, but Slim, despite his skills, was not among those chosen by the New Zealand Space Agency to participate. Instead, he was one of many independent fighters who took to space in their own private vessels - in Slim's case, the spaceship he called the "Slim Shooter (Object)". Earth's government-sanctioned and independent fighters were successful in staving off the invaders, but in the process, the Slim Shooter took heavy damage, and Slim himself was injured. With help from another independent fighter in the vicinity, he and the Shooter made it back to Earth. Slim took time recovering, and although his medical bills were covered by insurance, his wife was unable to keep the family financially viable alone, and instead of restoring the Shooter, they began to sell parts of the ship to survive. Then, in 2091, the invaders appeared again, in more varied "species" than before. They began heading towards Earth once more, and the world's governments were prepared to fight back. Slim was sure he'd have to sit this wave out, but Amy - at the time of the first invasion, simply a Ground Control operator - had now been promoted high enough to be able to pull some strings and get her step-brother selected for an official mission this time, in a NZSA fighter ship.
