Overview

After getting lost on the way to Excellen, Jack and Jill were still wandering the forest after the sun had set. Out in the cold, they stumbled upon a pile of wood to which the pair immediately turned into a campfire.

Sammy approached the group and angrily revealed that the tiny pile of wood was his house. Jack promised Sammy a new place to live if he escorted the pair to Excellen. Jill was excited to get a new member of the hero party and thus, Sammy joined Jack and Jill.

The game reveals both through Sammy saying so explicitly and flashbacks from Veronica that he is just extremely lazy and sleepy. His house was just a pile of wood because it was too much energy to make a proper one. He used his magic (learned from a prestigious magical academy) to simply hunt hares when he got hungry. After graduation, he lived in the forest so no one would bother him. Even his sprite usually has his eyes closed and most of his cutscene dialogue consisted of "Zzzzz."

Combat

Sammy has the lowest HP, agility, and defense of the group and only slightly more MP than Jack and Veronica. He is also the only party member that can use magic to heal everyone on the team. Even though he eventually can revive downed comrades and remove debuff statuses, all of his helpful spells come at a slightly small chance of afflicting 'sleep' on allies.
